Thank you for starting this network! We used to have a web designer network on ryze, but there seemed to be some personality clashes and the network disappeared.
I have been designing websites for around 7 years. Before that I was designing writing and designing publicity pieces, brochures, flyers, marketing pieces, etc. So now I do a little of both.
For the most part I use Dreamweaver, but I also use Frontpage (if I have to) and do use Textpad when I just want to see the code. I do some javascript and I am trying to learn php, but just don't have a lot of time to devote to reading and studying right now.
I have my own web design company, Gizmo Creations LLC, http://www.gizmocreations.com, and also work part time at our weekly paper, http://www.pineandlakes.com, so I have a steady source of income while I build my business. I am hoping to quit the paper at the end of the year. I love working at the paper and have really improved their website in the past few months. However, as most people know, papers do not pay well, and this is a weekly paper so that makes it even worse.
I have an AA Degree in E-Commerce and a BA in Journalism. I have nothing against people who have learned from books and doing things on their own, but there are too many do-it-yourselfers out there who know how to click and paste but nothing about design. They also think that websites should be done for about a nickel and I believe they are hurting those of us who are professionals.
